Small city – Gas station – Autos – Barge

Small city

Working material: Matchboxes, Colored paper, light cardboard.
Heiner set up the train and the station on the big table for his brother. Isn't something missing? Right! A small town with houses and a church. He makes the houses out of a matchbox each, which are neatly pasted with colored paper. He either paints on windows and doors or uses colored paper to make them. Then the roofs follow, for which parts of the box cover or thin cardboard are used. When enough houses have been built, comes the turn of the little church, from 1 1/2 Boxes. A few trees are also quickly drawn on cardboard and then colored in different green colors. Heiner made fine trees in double cut, while the rest are provided with a simple stand.

Gas station

Working material: 3 Matchboxes, 2 Cardboard rolls, cardboard, Colored paper.
On the main street, which is used by many cars, there is a gas station. The building is made up of three box covers glued together, which is covered with colored paper and then put on a sturdy piece of cardboard. In the meantime, Heiner has glued three box slides together, covered with colored paper, labeled and finally put on the building as a sloping roof. The two cardboard rolls serve as fuel pumps and at the same time give the roof support. For the gasoline- and air hoses, Heiner takes a piece of string or twists them out of tissue paper.

Autos

Working material: Matchboxes, spent matches or wooden toothpicks, Pappreste, Colored paper.
Like all boys, Heiner is also interested in cars. There are a lot of different types. With a little thought, they can be tinkered as toy cars out of matchboxes. Heiner once had a look into his workshop, so that you can see some of his self-made models on the adjacent picture page. The moving van e.g.. consists of a shell, the tractor, on the other hand, consists of two half-shells, which are plugged into each other. Small sticks form the axes, to which the cardboard wheels are attached. As with the carriage, two pieces of wood form the connection between the trailer and the tractor. Sticking with colored paper is just as little new to you, like the lettering to be attached. - Incidentally, said Heiner, that the description of a model would suffice. After all, it is not a feat for a real hobbyist, to work out the "construction" of the other types of car yourself.

Barge

Working material: 1 Box cover, 2 Slider, 1 Wooden toothpick, carton, Colored paper.
The town is located near a large river, ride on the barges. Heiner was there quickly, to make some such freighters out of matchboxes. The bow and stern are glued to both slides as shown in the illustration, and then both parts – according to the model – pushed into the case. With an approx. 38-40 cm long and 1,5 cm wide strips of colored paper he wraps around the whole thing, He carefully tucked the mast into a pre-drilled hole and decorated his boat with two flag garlands.
